Participants felt the workshops presented a strong business perspective and offered new and valuable insights. As one of the convening organizers, <strong>Judith Koke, Deputy Director<\/strong> and Director of Professional Learning at the Institute for Learning Innovation, knew this signaled an important opportunity. Partnering with<strong> Kimberly Young<\/strong>, a long time Director of Executive MBA programs and professional learning at multiple universities, a new program has developed. This program, the Museum Enterprise Leadership program, is based on the specific knowledge of the strengths, gaps and challenges Directors of Education face in operating effectively at the enterprise level. The curriculum is based on the four pillars of enterprise leadership, financial acumen, sense making, and community of practice.<\/p><h5><strong>Enterprise Leadership​<\/strong><\/h5><ul style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">Leaders with an enterprise mindset treat their organizations’ functions, geographies and systems as <\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">interconnected and interdependent parts of a cohesive structure with one goal: delivering on the <\/span><span data-usefontface=\"false\" data-contrast=\"none\">mission and strategic plan. Tammy serves on the senior leadership team of the museum and is the liaison to the Audit, Finance and Investment Committees of the Board.  She served as one of the leads in finalizing the museum’s current Strategic Plan.  During Tammy’s tenure the operational budget of the museum has grown 43% to over $34 million.  This has been done while delivering financially balanced operating results and clean audit opinions.  In her spare time she enjoys spoiling her grandchildren and gardening. <\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n\t\n <?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><h3>Mr. Mike Allison<\/h3><div class=\"one-fourth first faculty-photo\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"232\" height=\"292\" src=\"https:\/\/cpsprograms.umw.edu\/mel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/06\/mike.png\" class=\"attachment-medium alignleft\" alt=\"\" title=\"mike\" style=\"\">\n<\/div><div class=\"three-fourths second faculty-bio\">\n \n \n<strong>Title:<\/strong> Vice President of Talent and Culture at Spotlight (Analyst Relations) & Adjunct Professor and Bloch Executive Education instructor<br>\n<br>\n<strong>Organization:<\/strong> The Bloch School at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC).<br>\n<br>\n<p>Mike is the Vice President of Talent and Culture at Spotlight (Analyst Relations) where he oversees talent acquisition, leadership development, and employee growth\/engagement. Spotlight was recently named one of Kansas City’s 2022 best places to work for in both Ingram’s magazine and the Kansas City Business Journal. Mike is also an Adjunct Professor and Bloch Executive Education instructor within the Bloch School at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC).<\/p>\n<p>Prior to his role at Spotlight, Mike enjoyed over 22 years of healthcare IT leadership experience working at Cerner. His final role there involved leading a group of faculty who developed and delivered advanced education to cohorts of Veterans Administration (VA) clinicians, informaticists, and analytics professionals. He also worked with internal and external leaders on change management and other organizational development initiatives. Previously, Mike held executive responsibilities within Cerner’s client and associate learning organizations. His award-winning teams, many of which were internationally based, provided practical and effective end-to-end learning solutions to Cerner clients and associates around the world. <\/p>\n<p>Mike also spent a year as the Vice President of Learning and Development at AMC Theatres where he led a team of learning professionals focused on building, supporting, and retaining talent across multiple guest-facing brands. <\/p>\n<p>Mike regularly carries out public speaking engagements and provides coaching to business leaders across the Kansas City metropolitan area. He presents and instructs on diverse topics such as leading through change, emotional intelligence, holding difficult conversations, building a culture of feedback, advanced presentation techniques, cultivating trust, and executive presence. <\/p>\n<p>Prior to working in the private sector, Mike was involved in city management for three years. He worked primarily as a management analyst for the city of Kansas City, Mo. As evidenced by her leadership roles at the Art Gallery of Ontario and The Nelson-Atkins Art Museum, Judith challenges museums to broaden and deepen their relationships with diverse audiences. <\/p>\n<p>Currently the Deputy Director of the Institute for Learning Innovation, Judith’s career combines audience and learning research with museum leadership. She has been invited to work with numerous museum boards to build their understanding of the changing role of museums today, and worked with numerous museums in the effort to become more visitor-centered. <\/p>\n<p>Judith has published extensively and taught in numerous graduate programs. During his time with the College, Mr. Needles has provided leadership and support for multiple strategic initiatives at the College including operational launch of the Culinary Arts Institute and Virtual Campus, grant-supported efforts sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and development and launch of the College’s eSports program and Global Academy platform. Mr. Needles has been a national presenter at EDUCAUSE, Achieving the Dream, AACRAO, and AACC conferences, and has also co-published multiple writings.<br>\nMr. Needles joined the College serving as Dean of Business and Entrepreneurial Initiatives overseeing academic and professional business programs, the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Culinary Arts Institute, Virtual Campus, and Center for Workforce Development. He has also served as Strategic Advisor to the President, and is a graduate of the League for Innovation's Executive Leadership Institute. Previously, Mr. Needles served as Dean of the Institute for Business and Information Technology at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington. Prior to that appointment he served as Assistant Dean for Strategy and Planning at UMKC’s Bloch School of Management and also as Programs Manager for UMKC’s Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Mr. Needles began his career in education at the University of Miami School of Business Administration where he was Assistant to the Dean for Planning and Assessment. He also oversaw the school’s Entrepreneurship Program and was the recipient of the school’s Excellence in Teaching Award.<\/p>\n<p>Professionally, Mr. Needles has served as: Content Consultant for a Walt Disney Internet Group International entertainment and educational product in Europe, Japan, Latin America, and Australia; Director of Programming for Disney TeleVentures, a Walt Disney Company interactive television and broadband content joint venture; and Senior Consultant with Andersen Consulting (now accenture). This program is also a research study, to assess the impact of the individual bootcamps, as well as their impact collectively. You will be invited to shape the bootcamps through defining what you already know – and where you encounter challenging situations and problems. The programs are led by experienced professors in MBA programs, with museum expert guests.<\/p><h4 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/h4><h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Why focus on Directors of Education?<\/strong><\/h5><p>Across the nation,  museums are struggling to define their place in the future. Working to understand what it means to be relevant to diverse communities, how to move effective and engaging art experiences into virtual spaces and how to build partnerships with local and national organizations for effective collaborations – these are often the responsibility of the Education Director. These Directors, rising to the occasion, are enacting stronger leadership roles in their museums. Building on existing strengths in community building, audience development and education, the addition of deeper understandings of finance, strategic and innovative thinking, change leadership and organizational change would support the next level of leadership.<\/p><p>Museum education leadership has never been more needed. In this time of COVID, toxic racism, and unproductive hierarchical practice, we observe education departments being diminished, while concurrently experiencing increasing demands for online programming and digital equity.
